Cinderella Cake

When I was pregnant with my first son, one of my good friends was also pregnant with her first daughter. Her daughter was born a couple weeks before my son. Now, three years later, she asked me to make little Hanna's birthday cake. I can't believe how quickly time goes by! Hanna wanted a Cinderella cake (when I dropped it off on the morning of her birthday, Hanna was already in her Cinderella dress ready to party).
Cake was strawberry with vanilla filling.

Tangled Cake #6

Seriously, I've made 6 of these?!! This was for Olivia, who turned 3. The birthday girl's family put on figures of the characters. The tower is made of rice krispy treats. Cakes were strawberry and chocolate, filled with strawberry cream cheese buttercream.

Tangled Cake III

Somewhat inspired by this cake, this was a Tangled cake for Taylor's 5th birthday. Imagine Tangled character figurines on there (supplied by the birthday girl)! :)
The cake was vanilla with cookies n' cream filling. The tower is made from rice krispy treats.

Tangled Cake II

Wow, I have been gone for a while! I was under the weather for a while, and then we had family in town for a few weeks. I haven't done any baking except a couple cakes here and there! I'm ready to get back!
This is a Tangled cake for 4 year old Brynnley. The mom saw my other Tangled cake and wanted something similar.

TWD- Midnight Crackles

I'm baaack! Ok, I know the holidays should be about baking and cooking yummy things, but this year wasn't like that for me. I really wanted to, but we were in and out of town, so no time. I'm glad to be back to my favorite (only) baking group TWD (I need to find another group!). This is the anniversary recipe, which was chosen by Laurie and Jules, who spend hours maintaining the TWD site.
They chose Midnight Crackles, a chocolatey cookie with a little spice. Melted chocolate and cocoa powder are used to give them a rich flavor, with cinnamon and cloves added for a little kick. I underbaked these (the recipe advises to underbake rather than overbake), but I still thought they were a little dry.
They're yummy and a little addicting. My kids ate about 4 each today. Head here for the recipe!

In other news, those of you in SLC should check out my brother's new restaurant- Dojo Asian Inspired Cuisine and Lounge. We went to the grand opening in December. The food is AMAZING (and I'm not just saying that). The sushi is fantastic, but the entrees are exceptional as well. Here's the cake I made for that night:
And for Beansy's 5th (what??!!) birthday, I made her a (quick) "Tangled" cake. She is obsessed with that movie. OBSESSED!
Hope you all had an amazing holiday!! Happy New Year!

Beansy's Birthday

It was Beansy's 4th birthday this past week. She got princess cupcakes for her friend birthday party. I piped pink tiaras with dragees (I don't claim to be an expert piper, but Beansy looked at them and said, "Those are BEAUTIFUL!") on chocolate cupcakes:
I was hoping she would let me make the white chocolate cake so I could combine her birthday cake with the Cake Slice Bakers December cake, but no such luck, so I'll have to do that next week. She wanted Princess Jasmine with a Christmas tree for her cake. Since we were out of town and I forgot all my tools, this is the best I could do. Always the sweetheart, she said, "I love my cake mommy! Jasmine looks so pretty." Sniff.

Princess Cupcakes

I made some princess cupcakes for Brynn, our favorite (albeit rarely utilized babysitter) a while back. Her request was simple- soft pink and white with flowers.

Cinderella Cake

I made a birthday cake for our friend's daughter as a thank you for letting us use his truck to bring home our new BBQ. The birthday girl's big brother said she likes princesses so I made a Cinderella cake (or as Beansy says, "Cinderbredda)". I made the carriage and Cinderella (inspired by AIMummy) out of RKT and covered them in MMF. Instead of covering the cake with MMF, I opted for buttercream- the more time efficient and kid-friendly route. Cinderella ended up being a little bulky in the upper body and was apparently wearing headphones (thanks, Beans!). It was a three-layer white cake with strawberry jam filling and vanilla buttercream:
